Defining Membership Dues, Services & Products

Associations often offer more than just memberships. Along with annual membership dues, they may provide professional services, educational programs, consulting, publications, merchandise, or other resources to their members.

Engagifii Dues allows you to manage these offerings in one place using three item types:

  • Membership Dues
  • Services
  • Products

Each item type is designed for a different purpose while sharing many of the same configuration options, including pricing, eligibility, enrollment, notifications, and payment settings.

Understanding when to use each one helps ensure your catalog is organized and provides the right experience for your members.

1. Membership Dues

Membership Dues represent the fees members pay to maintain their membership with your association. They establish the member's relationship with the organization and typically include renewal terms, billing schedules, and membership-specific settings.

Membership Dues can be created for both individuals and organizations and support a variety of pricing methods to meet your association's needs.

  • Individual Membership
  • Associate Membership
  • Student Membership
  • Corporate Membership

Membership Dues support features such as:

  • Membership terms and renewals
  • Eligibility and visibility rules
  • Enrollment approvals
  • Payment options, and more

2. Services

Services represent offerings provided by your association that members or non-members can purchase independently of their membership.

Unlike Membership Dues, services are generally used for professional offerings or activities rather than establishing membership status.

3. Products

Products are physical or digital items available for purchase through your Dues catalog.

Products allow associations to sell resources alongside memberships and services while managing pricing, availability, and payment options from the same platform.

Products can also support inventory management, allowing your association to track available quantities for physical items. Depending on your needs, inventory can be managed at the product level or by individual product variants, such as size, color, or other configurable options.

The Catalog

The Catalog serves as the central storefront for your association's offerings, bringing together all published Membership Dues, Services, and Products in one place.

To provide a more personalized experience, the Catalog includes separate views for Individuals and Organizations, allowing members to browse offerings that are relevant to their membership type.

Association administrators control what appears in the Catalog using Visibility and Eligibility settings. These settings determine which items members can see and which ones they are permitted to purchase, ensuring each member only has access to the offerings intended for them.
